Post-Op-Instructions

DENTAL CROWNS, BRIDGES, INLAYS, ONLAYS & VENEERS

  • We create custom temporaries until your permanent restoration is completed.
  • Sensitivity and occasionally some soreness is common, and should subside within in a few days.
  • If your temporary loosens, comes out or breaks, DO NOT throw it out. Call our office and we will schedule an appointment to put it back.
  • Oral hygiene is important! Brush and floss, but do not floss around temporaries.

NEW DENTURES & Adjustments

  • Many patients experience some discomfort and speech problems when they first receive their dentures. New dentures sometimes need several adjustments to fit comfortably.
  • Do not sleep with your dentures. Remove your dentures every night and keep the denture in a container of denture cleaner.
  • Thoroughly brush your dentures with water before wearing them.

TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

  • Use the gauze, given to you, to put pressure on the extraction site for at least 30 minutes without removing it. If bleeding continues, change to a new gauze and reapply pressure for an additional 30 minutes. Continue to do so until the bleeding has stopped.
  • After surgery, place a cold compress on your face near the extraction site for 10 minutes. Remove for 5 minutes. Repeat.
  • Do not eat or drink hot foods and beverages after surgery.
  • Do not rinse your mouth.
  • Do not use a straw.
  • Do not spit.
  • Do not drink carbonated beverages.
  • Do not brush your teeth on the day of the surgery. Resume regular oral hygiene the next day.
  • Occasional pain, swelling, and bruising, are normal. Ensure that you take your prescribed medication and use a cold compress on your face as needed.
  • For the first couple of days, eat soft foods, such as soups, shakes, and yogurt.
  • Take care not bite your lips, and cheeks. Children should be watched and reminded not to do these things.

DENTAL FILLINGS

GUM SURGERY

  • Pain, swelling, and bleeding is normal following gum surgery. Use a cold compress on your face near the surgical site for 10 minutes at a time, with 5 minutes off, the day of your surgery. This will reduce pain, swelling, and bleeding.
  • Take your prescribed medications as instructed.
  • Ensure that you have a follow-up appointment scheduled.
  • Do not touch the area with your fingers (this also increases the possibility of infection).
  • Brush and floss the rest of your teeth as you normally would, but take care not to brush or floss near the sutures.
  • It is possible that you may experience a loss of sensation at the surgical site. This is common.
  • Do not spit, smoke or use a straw the day of your procedure, and for a few days post surgery.
